THE GRADIENTOWER
THE GRADIENTOWER
Urban Reflection |
The
Shenzhen's municipality decide to implement a low-rise area with a
new Masterplan of towers. This area is surrounded by mid-rise
residential towers.
Within
the Masterplan the eastern area is destined for office towers whereas
the western one is for mixed use buildings.
The
idea is to create a functional-stuck tower with houses on the lower
part responding to the height of the surrounding buildings and on the
higher offices according to the planned ones.
Since
the modernist time the architectural market is asking for galzed
towers all around the World, but this is not sustainable anymore so
we decided to do not skip the market demand but to find a way to be
vernacular and green.
To
emphasize the quality of both spaces the glass of the building moves.
It is sent back for the houses in order to create deep balconies all
around the apartments that provide shades during the hot summer and
a lovely outdoor space in the other periods of the year, a real
extension of the indoor.
In
the office part the glass is offsetted out in order to create a
double-layered ventilated facade that provide a better thermal
insulation. This also allows to have a better control of the quality
of the light into the building.

DOUBLE UP
DOUBLE UP
View from the plaza |
The buildings of a university create a big courtyard around a square. The headmaster and the council want a new building that will contain new technologies.
The
intention of the professors’ council is to make a new typology of
school in which students are owner of their time and their project.
At
the center of the courtyard there was an old warehouse, that will be
removed to make space at the new building. To maximize the area of
the plaza and to have a covered space the volume is lifted up in
order to allow a total use of the plaza without obstacle in the
middle.
The
two bumps have two functions: first is to support the volume and
second to create a 2.0 urban’s playground where people can stay and
play. One bump is a green hill in which people can sit and enjoy the
nature, the other one is a concrete pixelate hill that works like a
urban auditorium for lectures or shows or like a “gym” for
physical exercises.
The
volume is articulated in two floors that contain free classrooms,
conference rooms and one floor hosts a common space in which the
students can share their works with others and talking about their
projects freely.
The
building is characterized by a milky glass that filters the light
during the day and diffuses the interior light in night in order to
result like a giant lamp.
The
configuration of the building, and the plaza also, reflects the
wills of the client and to make possible that students can to
decide how and where to spend their time and energies
.

Entrance |
In
a Swiss valley, the municipality asks for a new museum able to
attract people from all around.
The shape takes the design from a polar array of a block, shaped like a pitched roof house, that creates a courtyard building. Thanks to this kind of arrangement all the functions are arranged around a circular path that allows to have a continuous way to enjoy the museum, thus entrance and exit coincide.
The pitched roof shape of each block is designed to integrate the mass of the museum in the context, made of detached country houses, also the material of the facade, corten steel, evokes the color of the surroundings.
Furthermore all the functions are located in order to have a correct sunlight, indirect for the galleries and direct for the hall and the public functions where people stay. All the galleries are located from the North-East to North-West in order to control the temperature inside them to preserve the integrity of the artistic installations.

THE EYE
THE EYE
Sunny morning |
The building is located in a strategic location. All the surrounding buildings basicaly have a coutyard scheme and they are the extrusion of their site.
The general construction rules allow only this kind of situation so the aim of the project was to find out a solution, made on this scheme, that was 2.0 in terms of sustainability.
The new courtyard building is designed shifting one side in order to create a cantilevered volume that allows to have a main entrance and a covered dropoff area. Instead to have a private couryard this solution allows to enjoy the “inner” space with the city creating a new plaza for events.
Lifting the volume, this one can receive sunlight, otherwise hidden from the building in front of it.
In this way a typical self-referential architecture scheme starts to talk with the context offering its most important character to the citizens.
The shape of the volume allows to limitate the structural needs because the 4 layers of glass (inner and outer) contribute in the static of the building.

CONTAINER-YARD
From the sea |
The nature of the place, the site is located closer to the harbor, is very industrial. To merge the project with this heritage and to respect the will of prefabricated houses that are made from containers.
The brick disposition allow to create a mixed use space between houses where people can enjoy the good weather, socialize and enjoy the view.
On top there are gardens to redistribute the nature lifted from the ground.
At the ground level there are all the public functions and on the higher levels there are houses. Stairs and elevators are located in the corner in common between containers to allow to arrive in all the houses.
The ground is very permeable and that allows to access at the interior garden located in the middle of coutyard, so, a typical private space becomes pubblic.

@ RESTAURANT

From the park |
During the Design Week, Milan becomes the place to be for everyone who wants to express himself, or to look at new trends.
The client asks for an iconic structure that can express the ideology of his company, exalting the name of the company “@-RESTAURANT”.
The site is located inside a new park designed by Petra Blaisse in a very growing area. The new building needs a kitchen, a space for sitting (inside and outside) and enjoy the food and also a bar. The shape is defined on a “@ project” and thanks to a deformation (lifting up an edge) the volume is perfect to locate all the functions having higher ceiling for the living area and smaller for the kitchen and services. The of outdoor space also is designed to have the exterior sittings next to the entrance and to echo the @.
The shape allows to have a walkable staircase as rooftop in order to have a social space and a way to view the amazing 360 degree panorama on the top. The lifted @ shape allows furthermore to have a free place where people can stay, enjoy the park or to have a social moment with their friends. In order to respect the location, the natural context all the parts of the project are made in wood, this allows to have a very simple structure and to have lower costs. The inside space is caracterized by a turning structure around a line that create a suggestive volume and also a very large glass facade allows to have a wonderful view of the park and life inside it.
